Pep Guardiola issues worrying Man City statement ahead of Tottenham Hotspur clash

Manchester City face Spurs in the Premier League and Pep Guardiola said worrying words ahead of the clash in the title race.

Pep Guardiola has admitted he does not know if the defeat against Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League will have a negative impact on the rest of Manchester City's season.

City were knocked out of the European competition in dramatic fashion after VAR disallowed what appeared to be a 92nd minute Raheem Sterling winner because of a Sergio Aguero offside.

Guardiola now has to hope his team can immediately bounce back against Spurs in the league at the Etihad on Saturday lunchtime but admitted he did not know if the Wednesday night result would have a negative impact on the rest of the season.

"I don’t know," he replied. "You never know how you’ll react, we were out other times, and we reacted well. But really I don’t know.”

"We’ll see today how people recover," Guardiola said. "Mentally and physically then we’ll take a decision tonight as we play early. We’ll see in terms of selection."

Left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko has returned to training with the first team ahead of the game after the injury he picked up in the Premier League win against Cardiff last month.
