Champions League: What Solskjaer told Messi after United’s defeat to Barca

Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has revealed what he told Barcelona captain, Lionel Messi following his side’s 1-0 defeat to Ernesto Valverde’s men in the Champions League.

A first-half own goal by Luke Shaw gave the La Liga champions all three points against the Red Devils at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

After the match, Solskjaer was seen by a camera having some discussions with Messi, who was left with a bloodied nose after a challenge with Man United defender, Chris Smalling during the encounter.

Asked at his post-match press conference what he said to Messi, the United boss was quoted by Manchester Evening News as saying: “I told him all the best and see you next week,” Solskjaer said. “That’s it.”

He added: “Messi is a fantastic player. We did as well as we could against him. We kept our shape well.”

Solskjaer’s men will hope to overturn their 1-0 deficit when they tackle Barcelona at Camp Nou in the Champions League second-leg tie next week.
