A SCHOOLBUS has been set alight by its driver in a horror hijack operation in Milan, according to reports.
Italian authorities say the bus driver doused his vehicle in gas before setting it on fire.
He had pulled over on the highway before telling passengers to get off.
Images show the vehicle engulfed by flames.
Reports say 12 pupils have been rushed to hospital, along with two adults.
There have been no serious injuries so far but it is understood the group were taken to hospital over inhalation concerns.
A man was arrested at the scene, with the motive for the arson attack not immediately clear.
According to La Rebupbblica, the suspect is of Senegalese origin.
The driver, according to witnesses, was heard shouting: "I want to end it, the deaths in the Mediterranean must be stopped."
Following the fire, the bus was left completely destroyed.
